Flood Control Projects Completed to protect $3 billion in property

Contact: Maria Or, (206) 764-6896 Nov. 2, 2004 SEATTLE - The Seattle District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, completed emergency levee rehabilitation projects in the Nooksack, Skagit, and Nisqually river basins that protect nearly $3 billion in property last month. The projects were finished just in time for winter flooding as several Western Washington rivers are expected to reach flood stage later today. The Seattle District Emergency Management office has activated their Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to level two. Level two means that the district is monitoring impacted flood basins which include Skagit, Snohomish, Nooksack, Olympic Peninsula, Nisqually and Chehalis. The District has also requested for Code 200 funds for flood response from Corps headquarters. The District Emergency Management office and Reservoir Control Center are working closely with the Washington State EOC and partnering communities. ###
