Issaquah fish passage project public meeting

Contact: Maria Or (206) 764-6896 Nov. 12, 2003 SEATTLE - A public meeting about a fish passage project in Issaquah, hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery Watershed Science Center. The public is encouraged to come learn about the Issaquah Creek Restoration project and discuss with project managers their construction concerns and impacts. Construction slated for early summer of 2004 would eliminate barriers and replace existing inadequate infrastructure restricting fish passage. The Corps and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, co-sponsors , analyzed eight alternatives to finally decide on the best design, a pool and chute fish ladder with downstream grade control weirs. As a part of the design, the dam face would be moved forward and a new spillway constructed. The screens on the intake structure would also be modified. Refreshments and parking will be available on the hatchery grounds, 125 West Sunset Way, Issaquah, Washington. For more information call Corps project manager Alicia Austin at (206) 764-5522 or visit our website www.nws.usace.army.mil. ###
