Ground breaking ceremony Aug. 28 for Riley Creek recreation area project

Ground breaking ceremony Aug. 28 for Riley Creek recreation area projectContact: Patricia Graesser (206) 764-3760 Aug. 18, 2003 OLDTOWN, Idaho--The Seattle District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, invites the public to attend an Aug. 28 ceremony at which ground will be ceremonially broken for the Riley Creek Recreation Area Modernization Project. The ceremony is Thursday, Aug. 28, at 1 p.m., at the Riley Creek Recreation Area, Osprey Picnic Shelter, in Laclede, Idaho. The Corps of Engineers, which owns and operates the campground as part of its Albeni Falls Dam facilities, will wait to begin work until after this summer's camping season. The work will include upgrades to the restrooms, improvements to and repaving of all roads and parking areas, realigning the camping sites to allow easier vehicle pull in and pull out. Upgrades are also planned to utilities, trails, boat ramps, picnic and playground facilities, the beach area and the amphitheater. Once modernization is completed, all facilities within the park will be accessible for people with disabilities. The park will close to the public on Sunday night, Sept. 7. The entire Riley Creek recreation area will be closed for the 2004 recreation season while the Corps works to improve facilities and accessibility.
