Army Corps of Engineers Contact: Leslie Kaye (206) 764-3751 or Cell: (206) 369-8937 August 14, 2002 SEATTLE—The Chehalis River Basin community will have a chance to publicly comment on the Army Corps of Engineers’ proposed project to reduce flood damages at an official public hearing on Aug. 21, 2002 from 6 to 9 p.m. on the second floor of the Lewis County Courthouse, 351 NW North Street, Chehalis, Washington. This meeting is being held as part of the required public comment and review time period following the release of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement. The DEIS is available for review at two locations: 1) Electronically at the Army Corps public web site: www.nws.usace.army.mil and 2) In hard copy format at three local libraries—Chehalis Timberland Library, Centralia Timberland Regional Library and Montesano Timberland Library. The official comment period will close Sept. 19. The public is invited to either make verbal comments at the hearing, comment via the website or submit comments in writing by the deadline, to: Army Corps of Engineers, CENWS-PM-PL-ER, ATTN: George Hart, PO Box 3755, Seattle, WA 98124-3755 The design construction project features environmentally sensitive setback levees, modifications to Skookumchuck Dam (owned by PacifiCorp), and alteration of the SR6 Bypass. When complete the system will provide flood protection for a 100-year event. Colonel Ralph H. Graves, District Engineer for the Seattle District Army Corps of Engineers will preside. ###
