Come watch the salmon run at the Chittenden Locks in Ballard

Come watch the salmon run at the Chittenden Locks in BallardContact: Patricia Graesser (206) 764-3760 July 9, 2001 SEATTLE--Sockeye salmon are migrating through the fish ladder at the Chittenden Locks in Ballard in large numbers right now. It is a great time to bring your family and out-of-town guests to the Locks to get a close-up view of the dramatic scene of thousands of sockeye salmon swimming upstream to spawn. More than 196,000 sockeye had traversed the Locks through July 8. Currently about 7,300 sockeye are swimming through each day—quite a sight through the lighted viewing windows at the Locks fish ladder. A total of 15,331 sockeye passed through in one day—July 3. You can visit the Locks from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. The fish ladder offers lighted viewing windows for visitors to see the fish on their level as well as plenty of viewing areas above the ladder. The fish ladder can be accessed from the Locks at 3015 NW 54th St. in Seattle, or from Seattle’s Commodore Park.
