Celebrate new Salmon in the City artwork at the Chittenden Locks May 20

Celebrate new Salmon in the City artwork at the Chittenden Locks May 20The public is invited to the Chittenden Locks in Ballard as the Corps of Engineers joins the City of Seattle to celebrate two art installations this Sunday, May 20, at 2 p.m. The projects are two of the 15 “Salmon in the City” projects sponsored by the Seattle Arts Commission. One of the two projects unveiled this Sunday is a set of outdoor murals created by Brad McCombs. You’ll see robotic salmon make their way up their native rivers on the murals, which show past and present Lake Washington watershed conditions. The other project is “Salmon Suite”-- poetry by Judith Roche. She will read her poems at the May 20 event, and her works will be played in the fish ladder beginning Sunday. A single poem will be played for each season of the year. Speakers at the event include Helen Lessick of Seattle Arts Commission; Fred Goetz, a Seattle District fish biologist; and the two artists. The Chittenden Locks is at 3015 NW 54th Street in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle.
