Enjoy recreation activities on the Pend Oreille River this summer

Enjoy recreation activities on the Pend Oreille River this summerContact: 208-437-3133 May 2, 2001 The Army Corps of Engineers will feature tours, movies, and special events during the summer of 2001 in our recreation areas along the Pend Oreille River and in the Visitor Center at Albeni Falls Dam. The Visitor Center summer hours are daily: 7:30 am to 6 pm. Exhibits provide hands-on enjoyment, and there are movies for viewing. Free tours of the dam include the powerhouse and the spillway. Tours are daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. The Corps of Engineers’ campgrounds will be opening Saturday, May 12. Corps campgrounds include Priest River (better known as the “Mudhole”), Riley Creek, Albeni Cove and Springy Point. These campgrounds offer boat ramps, fishing docks, beaches, picnic shelters, and showers. Please excuse our mess this season, as we are experiencing growing pains. The Corps is adding showers for persons with disabilities to Springy Point, Priest River, and Albeni Cove. These parks will be open for camping on a first-come, first-served basis only until May 24, when we will resume taking reservations. Call 1-877-444-6777 or 1-518-885-3639 internationally to make your reservations or use the Internet at http://www.reserveusa.com. Call Albeni Falls Dam at 208-437-3133 to reserve the picnic shelters at Riley Creek or Priest River. The cost is $35 per day. This year, the Park Rangers will present new programs for campers and local residents. The programs will be on Friday and Saturday nights during the season. These programs will include stories of David Thompson, Lewis and Clark, Sacagawea, the Oregon Trail, Native Americans, Exploring The Night Skies, Nighttime Creatures, and the Return of the Wolves. There will be special children’s programs on Saturday mornings and Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Make this the year you play on the Pend Oreille. Discover Albeni Falls Dam and what it has to offer.
