Patrick Pizzella
Assistant Secretary for Administration and Management and CIO

Patrick Pizzella was nominated to be Assistant Secretary for Administration and Management at the Department of Labor by President Bush on April 25, 2001, and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 9, 2001. As Assistant Secretary of Labor, Mr. Pizzella serves as the principal advisor on administration and management programs and as the Department's Chief Information Officer. In this role, Mr. Pizzella oversees the Department's involvement with e-Government initiatives, including GovBenefits.gov.

Mr. Pizzella has served in various posts since his arrival in Washington, DC in 1980. He served as Director of Intergovernmental and Regional Affairs at the U.S. Small Business Administration from 1985 to 1986. From 1986 to 1987, Mr. Pizzella was the Administrator for Management Services at the U.S. Department of Education, and was appointed by President Reagan to be Deputy Under Secretary for Management at the Department of Education in 1988. In March 1987, he was selected as one of America's top forty performers under 40 years of age by Management Magazine, a publication of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. Mr. Pizzella was a member of the Office of Personnel Management's Senior Executive Service Advisory Committee from 1987 to 1988. Mr. Pizzella also served as a member of the President's Council on Management Improvement from 1988 to 1989.

From 1990 to 1995, Mr. Pizzella served as Director of Administration at the Federal Housing Finance Board, an independent regulatory agency with responsibility for overseeing the Federal Home Loan Bank system, a $200 million Government Sponsored Enterprise.

From 1996 to 2001, Mr. Pizzella was a member of Preston Gates Ellis & Rouvelas Meeds, L.L.P.'s policy practice group and served as a Government Affairs Counselor with responsibility for the coordination of the firm's grassroots and coalitions management practice. The firm's practice in Washington, D.C. is focused on legislative policy, Executive Branch representation, and administrative law.

After serving as Policy Coordinator for the Bush-Cheney General Services Administration Transition Team, Mr. Pizzella joined the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM), where he served as the Director's Chief of Staff and managed an annual operating budget of approximately $550 million and a workforce of 3,000 employees.

Mr. Pizzella, a native of New Rochelle, New York, received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina in 1976.
