This podcast is presented by The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. CDC - Safer. Healthier. People.

Thanks to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an immunization program to eradicate rubella in the United States has been successful.

No one in the Americas will ever again suffer from the paralyzing infectious disease of polio and a highly contagious viral disease responsible for killing and disabling millions of people worldwide - smallpox - has been totally eradicated.

Through research and education, the CDC, as part of the Department of Health and Human Services, plays a critical role in controlling infectious diseases, such as HIV and tuberculosis, and protecting the world by responding quickly to outbreaks of potential major disease epidemics such as SARS and pandemic influenza.

As the lead federal agency for protecting the health and safety of all people, the CDC is addressing global health concerns such as bioterrorism, anthrax and toxic chemical exposure, with staff in all 50 states and in 45 countries throughout the world.

Since its formation in 1946, the challenges have been great: To protect Americans from major public health threats. To be prepared for emerging diseases. And to partner with domestic and international public health organizations to cultivate effective disease prevention programs.

Today, in the newly modernized CDC, there are exciting opportunities for you to meet the global health concerns and threats. The future of the CDC is in the hands of the next generation of public health leaders-- scientists, doctors, microbiologists and epidemiologists, as well as highly qualified public health specialists with education and credentials in the social sciences, liberal arts, mathematical statistics and analysis, information technology, and health education.

CDC knows that success is dependent on building strong leaders. So, recent graduates who have superior academic records and a masters or higher degrees are recruited as Emerging Leaders for a unique networking, career development and training opportunity.

CDC also awards postdoctoral and senior associateships in biomedical research as well as fellowships, internships, and more than 40 student training programs with diverse opportunities for hands-on experiences, behind-the-scenes and in-the- field, working with bright, talented mentors.

Staff education is a constant at CDC, both on campus and off-site, assuring the continuous personal and professional growth of our highly qualified team.

If you want a career where your innovative ideas and energy are valued…. where you work with highly motivated colleagues on exciting advances in science and technology…. where you earn excellent pay, benefits and work-life balance….and where you have the opportunity to make a real difference in the health and well being of people here and around the world…then consider joining some of the nation's premier medical and health leaders in a career at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
