- The Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries announced today $502,000 in Gulf Coast School Library Recovery Initiative grants to fourteen schools in Louisiana and Mississippi. These grantees are in addition to the forty schools in Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida and Texas that have received awards since May of last year, making total grants of over $2.5 million in the first eleven months of the initiative. Stewart, Sr. Elementary School, Corona, NY. Awardees were selected from more than 1200 applications in 46 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. Virgin Islands. The awards are based primarily on need and schools will use the funds to create or expand their book collections.
