EAD Tag Library for Version 1.0

EAD Elements: <language> Language

Description:

A subelement of <langusage> within the <profiledesc> portion of the <eadheader> that specifies the language or communication system in which the finding aid is written. For bilingual or multilingual finding aids, either identify each language in a separate <language> element, or mention only the predominant language.

Do not confuse with the LANGMATERIAL attribute, which identifies the language of the materials being described and is available with <archdesc> and <c> elements. Do not confuse with the LANGENCODING attribute, which specifies that ISO 639-2 codes are used in the LANGMATERIAL attribute. EAD has no specific element to designate a textual statement about the language of the materials being described; but such information can, for example, be part of a paragraph in <scopecontent>.
