EAD Elements: <expan> Expansion

Description:

A generic element to designate the full form of a word that often appears as an abbreviation or acronym. Use the ABBR attribute to supply the abbreviated form for indexing or searching purposes. For names of people and organizations more commonly known in a shortened form, consider using the <persname> or <corpname> element to tag the full expanded form of the name and include a NORMAL attribute value to indicate the briefer form.
