Legal Assistance
The Academy legal office offers legal assistance visits with attorneys on a walk-in basis at the Annex Office (2nd floor, 10 ABW HQ Building).
Legal Assistance Walk-In Hours: Tuesdays 730-830 and Thursdays 1200-1300. No appointments are necessary! All clients who sign in during the walk-in periods will be seen that day. NOTE: Priority will be given to active duty members in uniform (with or without accompanying dependents). Please call the legal office with any questions. 333-3940.

Legal Assistance is provided to qualified active duty military members, retirees, and dependents that possess a valid military identification card. We provide free legal advice on personal, civil, and legal matters. An Air Force attorney cannot represent you in court, but the advice we provide could prove invaluable should you need to consult a civilian attorney. Legal Assistance cannot be provided over the telephone, only in person. We are prohibited from providing some forms of legal advice.

Prohibited legal assistance includes:
  • Issues involving personal commercial enterprises
  • Criminal issues under the Uniform Code of Military Justice or state/federal criminal law. (Contact the Area Defense Counsel at (719) 333-2481, DSN 333-2481 or seek civilian counsel for criminal matters.)
  • Standards of Conduct issues
  • Law of Armed Conflict issues
  • Official matters in which the United States Air Force has an interest or is involved in the final outcome Legal issues or concerns raised on behalf of another person
  • Representation in a court or administrative proceeding
Notaries, Advanced Medical Directives and Powers of Attorney are available on a walk-in basis 0800-1100 and 1300-1600 Monday through Friday. No appointment necessary.

A power of attorney is a legal document that allows another to conduct legal actions on your behalf (such as selling a house) and can be either special (usually connected with a single transaction or event) or general (total power over another's legal affairs). Financial Crimes - Military members having financial problems should seek assistance before action is taken against them. The Personal Financial Management Program (PFMP) in the Family Support Center can provide guidance regarding credit cards, checking accounts, and other financial matters.
