NCES cautions against using the variable SEREPT2 on the Parent-NHES:1999 data file because it contains anomalous data. This variable indicates that, in 1999, 5.3 million children had repeated the second grade. For comparison, the estimate of the number of children who had repeated second grade from PFI-NHES:2003 is 731,000. There is no indication that any other variables are affected by this anomaly.
