Electronic Reporting Roadmap

The purpose of this project is to assess the capability of the Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) to support emerging data collection requirements. During the Electronic Reporting Planning Workshop held in July 2007, it was clear that a common need exists across

regions for a more accurate, timely, and reliable means to collect real-time or near real-time data for sensitive or quota managed fisheries. It was determined that VMS may be the best option for supporting this requirement. Therefore this project will identify regional reporting needs that may benefit from use of VMS, determine the practicality of utilizing VMS for these fisheries, and develop a plan for implementing any needed enhancements to the VMS system.
