The fitness center includes a juice bar and new fitness equipment.
Built in 1953, the building has hosted “deployments, redeployments and basketball games,” Col. Jim Chevallier, Fort Irwin garrison commander, said during the ceremony. Chevallier said the center is a “world-class facility for a world-class Army,” which honors the ultimate sacrifice of Soldiers from Fort Irwin.

Pittard, commanding general, the National Training Center (NTC) and Fort Irwin, who attended the ceremony. He thanked the community members who began the project and added, “We have to take ownership of our own destiny.” |
Pittard said there are other ways community members can help make NTC and Fort Irwin the best community Army-wide. These include volunteering; recycling; being considerate of others; helping to plant 1,000 trees on post; and helping to make Fort Irwin 100 percent energy self-sufficient in the next two years. The general encouraged members of the audience to join the Arbor Day Foundation.
