Gate Attendant Contracts

Gate Attendant Program

Gate Attendant Program

Gate attendants are the public's primary interface with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. These people are private individuals who work under contract for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The contracts at Bardwell Lake require a two-person team.

Responsibilities include collecting user fees, registering campers and visitors, maintaining campground status reports, reservation reports, use fee collection reports, posting campsite reservations, providing general information to the visiting public, surveillance of use fee compliance and informing visitor of rules and regulations, manning the gate house and recording any complaints. Additional duties are identified in the Bardwell Lake Gate Attendant Scope of Work.

The attendants are responsible for cleaning the gatehouse and the immediate area surrounding the entrance complex. They are also responsible for cleaning their own trailer site. The attendants are required to purchase all cleaning supplies necessary to perform these duties.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will provide all necessary fee collection supplies. Most parks utilize the National Recreation Reservation Service computer system and software. Some parks may utilize ENG 4457 User Fee Permit Books, cash registers or some alternate form of fee collection. The government will provide computer paper, fee books, maps and brochures.

Gate attendants are required to live in the campground on a site provided by the Corps of Engineers. Gate attendants are also required to provide a self contained recreational type trailer or RV. The government provides a covered site with a minimum of 30-amp electric service, water and sewer at no cost to the gate attendant. A phone line is provided in all gatehouses for government business and private phone lines may be available at the gate attendant's expense.
