DEAR COLLEAGUE LETTER
DCL-08-45
ATTACHMENT: Story Behind the Numbers - Undistributed Collections, FY 2007 (86kb Adobe pdf)
DATE: Dec 15, 2008
TO: ALL STATE AND TRIBAL IV-D DIRECTORS
RE: Undistributed Collections
Dear Colleague:
The enclosed report on undistributed collections is provided for your information.
As you know, one of the major priorities of the Child Support Enforcement Program is to ensure that child support is not only collected, but is actually distributed to families in a timely manner. Current data reflect a trend towards the gradual reduction in the amount of these undistributed collections (UDC). Overall, net UDC has decreased in recent years, dropping from $738 million in FY 2001 to $ 472 million in FY 2007. UDC as a percentage of total collections has also decreased from 3.75% to 1.86% during the same period of time.
The enclosed report provides a further analysis of this data as well as related factors which underlie the above trend. If you have any questions, please contact Xiandong Meng at (202) 401-5271 or e-mail him at: xiandong.meng@acf.hhs.gov
Sincerely,
Margot Bean
Commissioner
Office of Child Support Enforcement
