Horner Appointed to Technical Director Post

Dr. David A. Horner portrait photoDr. David A. Horner has been selected for a one-year assignment as the Technical Director for Airfields, Pavements and Sustainment Engineering at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) in Vicksburg, Miss.

The ERDC is the premier research and development facility for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It consists of seven laboratories at four geographical sites, with over 2,000 employees, $1.2 billion in facilities, and an annual research program exceeding $660 million. It conducts research in both military and civil works mission areas for the Department of Defense and the nation.

In his position as technical director, Horner is responsible for ensuring that research and development activities in airfields and pavements and sustainment engineering are integrated across all functional programs of the ERDC, maximizing the organization's ability to execute an effective, quality R&D program. In addition, he advises principal investigators in developing study plans and explores airfields and pavements research areas to solve issues of concern to the Corps of Engineers, Department of Defense and the nation.

Prior to his current assignment, Horner served as the branch chief for mobility systems in the ERDC Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory. He has been employed with the ERDC since 1986.

Horner holds a doctorate in civil engineering from the University of Michigan.
