12 Jun 2006 -- HANOVER, N.H. -- Dr. Norbert Yankielun, research electronics engineer, has earned his 25th United States patent. Yankielun was awarded patent #6,970,247 for devising "methods and devices for optically recording and imaging representations of interactions of an object with its environment."

The official abstract describes the patent as 'an array of optical sensors affixed to measure interactions on a surface of an object, in combination with a specially configured personal computer, dynamic mapping of interaction is provided.'

"This device is useful to the military. For the Navy, it helps in designing surface components for submarine communication, for the Army, it has implications for hydro-dynamic studies, which is especially helpful to the Corps civil mission," said Yankielun.

Dr. Yankielun is well-versed in design, development, evaluation and implementation of instrument radar systems for geophysical investigations and surveying in Arctic and Antarctic environments.

Yankielun's expertise also includes buried unexploded ordinance detection, buried mine detection, ice thickness, snow depth and stratigraphy, bridge scour, and frazil ice detection.
