Description: Annual herb 1 1/2-12 inches (4-30 cm) tall, with linear to oblanceolate leaves, 3/8-1 inch long.  Flower stalk (pedicel) 3/8-1 inch (9-25 mm) long.  Corolla rose-purple with dark, red-purple throat 1/2-5/8 inch (13-17 mm) long, lobes all notched. The calyx has maroon spots. Fruit is 1/4 inch (5.5-6.5mm) long.

Distribution: This species is found only at the mid elevations of the Sierras in Tuolumne and Mariposa counties.  BLM manages a single known occurrence in the vicinity of Dogtown, Mariposa County.

Habitat: Upper and lower montane coniferous forest, foothill woodland, meadows and seeps.  Usually found in disturbed, moist loamy soil, often in partial shade, from 4000 to 5700 feet (1200-1750 meters).

Flowering Period: April-August
