Activities Underway

Office of Safeguards and Security Evaluations (OA-10)

Composite Adversary Team (CAT): The development of lesson plans continued in support of the upcoming CAT training. The draft lesson plans are due by May 1. The training is scheduled to be conducted at the Hanford Site (Hanford).

Office of Cyber Security Evaluations (OA-20)

Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIF) Baseline Review: Onsite data collection activities were conducted at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL) and Kansas City Plant (KCP) this week. Final draft reports were developed for the LANL and Pantex reviews. Reviews have been completed at Y-12, DOE Headquarters, LLNL, LANL, and Pantex. The full baseline review is scheduled to be completed in July 2004. This activity is being conducted at the request of IN and pursuant to the Federal Information Management Security Act (FIMSA) requirements for independent security evaluations of information systems.

Pantex Classified Cyber Security Inspection: Comments on the preliminary draft report have been received and a final draft of the inspection report is being prepared. The inspection included network testing activities and a review of site policies, procedures, and security plans.

Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab) Unclassified Cyber Security Inspection: Planning continued in support of this inspection. Data call and technical assessment protocol documents have been provided to site personnel for review. The inspection is scheduled to commence with announced external penetration testing on April 5 pending agreement with site personnel.

Office of Emergency Management Oversight (OA-30)

Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) Emergency Management Targeted Review: Onsite validation and closeout activities were conducted this week. Tabletop performance testing was conducted as part of the review.

Hanford Emergency Management Targeted Review: Planning activities continued with the Richland Operations Office (RL) in preparation for this review. Tabletop performance testing is scheduled as part of the review.

Office of the Inspector General (OIG) Draft Pre-decisional Report: Continuity Planning and Emergency Preparedness: Participated with SP-1 and SO in a conference call with the OIG regarding the subject report. Comments were provided to help clarify some of the examples used by the OIG. Overall, the draft report reflects the SP and OA-30 understanding of the status of field continuity of operations (COOP) implementation, and emergency management exercise corrective action requirements, lessons learned, and performance measures. OIG recommendations made for actions by SP and NNSA are appropriate. The completion of the OIG recommendations will enhance the overall Department emergency management program.

Office of Environment, Safety, and Health (ES&H) Evaluations (OA-50)

Investigation of Worker Exposures and Medical Services at Hanford and River Protection Project (RPP) ES&H Inspection: Analysis was conducted of the information obtained during onsite data collection activities conducted over the past two weeks.

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) ES&H Inspection: Planning continued in support of onsite scoping activities. Activities have been coordinated with the Office of Science (SC) and the EH Office of Enforcement.

Worker Safety Regulation: Support continued to the Department in the development of a draft worker safety regulation through the efforts of the 851 Executive Team.

Office of Emergency Management Oversight (OA-30)

Savannah River Site (SRS) ES&H and Emergency Management Inspection: Printing of the final report was initiated this week. Distribution is scheduled for next week.

Office of Environment, Safety, and Health Evaluations (OA-50)
