Personnel Security
The DOE Personnel Security Program is designed to ensure that individuals with access to classified
information and special nuclear materials do not pose a threat to these significant national security
interests. This is accomplished by the issuing initial and continuing access authorizations
(security clearances) only to personnel who meet defined Federal standards for honesty, reliability,
and trustworthines. Other programs, although not a part of the DOE Personnel Security Program, are
grouped under that heading for inspection purposes because they have a similar purpose of ensuring
that only individuals who do not pose a threat to the national security interests are granted access.
These programs are the Human Reliability Program, Foreign Visits and Assignments Program, and
Safeguards and Security Awareness Program.
