Classified Matter Protection and Control

Classified Matter Protection and Control (CMPC) refers to the DOE program that provides protection for classified matter and sensitive information from its inception to destruction or declassification. Classified matter is a general term used to refer to documents, information (in any form) and materials (parts, components, equipment, etc.) that contain classified information or that are classified in and of themselves (i.e., a classified shape). Classified matter is protected by means of physical protection, access controls, need-to-know and, in some cases, maintaining accountability and records. Sensitive information may come in the same forms as classified matter, and have their own protection measures. These measures include physical protection, access controls and need-to-know. Other key elements of the CMPC program are the security infraction program, and the determination of Foreign Ownership, Control and Influence.
