Classified Matter Protection and Control
Classified Matter Protection and Control (CMPC) refers to the DOE program
that provides protection for classified matter and sensitive information
from its inception to destruction or
declassification. Classified matter is a general term used to refer to
documents, information (in any form) and materials (parts, components,
equipment, etc.) that contain classified information or that are classified
in and of themselves (i.e., a classified shape). Classified matter is
protected by means of physical protection, access controls, need-to-know
and, in some cases, maintaining accountability and records. Sensitive
information may come in the same forms as classified matter, and have
their own protection measures. These measures include physical protection,
access controls and need-to-know. Other key elements of the CMPC program
are the security infraction program, and the determination of Foreign
Ownership, Control and Influence.
