Bozeman--The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) today announced the funding that will be available for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP). In 2007, the agency will be able to allocate more than $23 million to conservation projects in Montana.

“Implementing conservation practices under EQIP allows us to work with individual landowners in addressing resource concerns on their property,” said Dave White, NRCS state conservationist. “This year, we will also be setting aside EQIP funds to address several statewide resource concerns and special initiatives to address regional or local concerns.”

The $23 million in EQIP funds will be distributed as follows:

  • $12.9 million will be distributed and reserved for county use;
  • $2.3 million will go to improving water quality near animal feeding operations;
  • $2.3 million for conservation activities on tribal lands;
  • $5 million will go to special conservation initiatives across the state; and
  • $.5 million is for Conservation Innovation Grants.

For more information about EQIP and other conservation programs, visit your local NRCS field office.
