This map by Ferando Berteli was published in Venice in 1565 and is based on an earlier map by Giacomo Gastaldi. It shows that by the mid-sixteenth century, European cartographers had obtained a reasonably complete view of the world as it is known today.

In 1841 the New-York Historical Society began a project to publish translations of the "annals of the Dutch colonists by whom the arts of civilization were originally planted on the banks of the Hudson." De Vries's book was translated by Henry C. Murphy and published in 1857 in the third volume of the society's collections. |

Deze kaart van Ferando Berteli werd in 1565 in Venetië uitgegeven en is gebaseerd op een eerdere kaart van Giacomo Gastaldi. Ze laat zien dat Europese cartografen in het midden van de 16de eeuw al een aardig compleet beeld hadden van de wereld zoals wij die tegenwoordig kennen.
