Overview
This
module covers the design of visual information displays. We continuously
receive information from our environment through our sensory systems:
vision, hearing, touch, and smell. However, we rely most heavily
on vision. Vision affords us the greatest capacity for information
receiving and processing. For this reason, the majority of information
displays are designed for the visual system.
There
are other displays designed for the auditory system (hearing),
the somasensory system (touch), and the olfactory system (smell).
These are termed non-visual displays and are the subject of the
Non-Visual Display Module. Whether visual or non-visual, all displays
share three basic design requirements. To be effective, a display
must be:
