Kyrgyzstan is a recently independent country with an ancient culture. Until 1991 it was a part of the USSR, previous to that, beginning in about 1850 it was a part of the Russian Empire. From ancient times, until becoming part of the Russian Empire, the Kyrgyz were an important people associated with the states of Central Asia and China from ancient times. The attached websites give access to many aspects of Kyrgyz culture and history.
