Colonel John M. Pollock

Commanding Officer, CBIRF

Colonel Pollock was born October 14th, 1963 in Oakland California. A 1985 graduate of the Virginia Military Institute, he was commissioned in May of that year, and upon completion of The Basic School was designated a Signals Intelligence Ground Electronic Warfare Officer.

In June of 1986, Second Lieutenant Pollock was assigned to the 3rd Marine Division as the Team Commander, 1st Special Security Communications Team, responsible for the provision of special intelligence record communications support to the Commanding General 3rd Marine Division. In the summer of 1987, First Lieutenant Pollock was reassigned to the First Marine Amphibious Brigade in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, where he served as the staff Signals Intelligence/Electronic Warfare Officer and as the Aide de Camp to the Commanding General.

In the summer of 1990, Captain Pollock was selected to attend the Command and Control Systems Course in Quantico, Virginia. In the summer of 1991, he was reassigned to the Second Radio Battalion, Camp Lejeune, N.C. where his duties included tours as the S-3 Plans Officer, Commanding Officer Alpha Company, and Commander Second Radio Battalion Detachment 22 MEU (SOC).

In the spring of 1994, Captain Pollock was selected as the USMC Exchange Officer to the Royal Australian Army’s, 7th Signal Regiment (EW), in Toowoomba Australia, where he served as a Squadron Executive Officer/Operations Officer and as the Assistant Regimental Operations Officer.  In the summer of 1996, Major Pollock was reassigned as the Chief, Special Support Activity, National Security Agency, Ft Meade, Maryland. In the summer of 1999, Major Pollock was reassigned to Second Intelligence Battalion, Camp Lejeune, N.C. where he served as the collection manager and battalion Executive Officer.  

In 2001, Lieutenant Colonel Pollock attended the Marine Corps Command and Staff Resident Program in Quantico, Virginia, where he received his Masters in Military Studies (MMS). Upon completion of the course of study, Lieutenant Colonel Pollock was reassigned to II MEF, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where he served as the Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff G-2, Second Marine Expeditionary Brigade (Task Force Tarawa). Upon assuming command of the Second Radio Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Pollock redeployed the battalion to the Anbar Province from August 2004 to June of 2005.

During 2005-2006, Lieutenant Colonel Pollock attended the Army War College where he received a Masters Degree in Strategic Studies. Promoted to Colonel in February of 2007, he was assigned as the Assistant Chief of Staff, G-2, Second Marine Division and deployed as the MNF-W G-2 in Anbar Province during OIF-06-08.  Colonel Pollock is presently assigned as the Commanding Officer of Chemical Biological Incident Response Force (CBIRF), Indian Head, Maryland.

His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit (w/ gold star in lieu of second award), Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal (w/ oak leaf cluster) and Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal (w/ gold star in lieu of second award).
