Volunteering

Photo of Volunteers Working

The Corps of Engineers continually works with groups and individuals that donate their efforts to improve the lake facilities. Some projects completed in the past have included the planting of trees and shrubs, building and erecting nesting boxes, maintaining trails, and constructing artificial fish habitat structures.

You can volunteer to do work which would not otherwise be done without your help.

The jobs range from small, simple one-day projects, to long-term projects, which require special skills. The park manager will review your interests and skills and try to match you with a job that fits your time requirements.

The reasons for volunteering are as numerous as the volunteers, and their rewards take many forms. People of all ages enjoy being out of doors and working with the professional ranger staff. But most of all people volunteer because they enjoy doing work, without compensation, for the benefit of nature.

Please contact us at (785) 539-8511 for more information.

"ADOPT-A-PARK" at Tuttle Creek Lake

One of the most popular ways to volunteer involves the "Adopt-A-Park" and "Adopt-A-Shoreline" programs. These programs are designed to enhance a particular park or section of shoreline and allow members of the public to become actively involved in beautifying a chosen area.

Any civic group, organization, club, family, or other concerned group of citizens may participate. A group may adopt one of the eleven parks or a minimum of one mile of shoreline. Activities range from litter cleanup and trail maintenance to planting trees and dismantling abandoned fences. Interested groups adopt an area for at least two years. Work may be performed at any time of year, so participants are not obligated to a specific time. Groups will be asked to schedule at least two work periods during a year.

If you or your group are interested in participating in the "Adopt-A-" programs or volunteering in any capacity, contact the Corps of Engineers office at (785) 539-8511 Monday through Friday.
