Folsom Field Office

Special Areas

General Information

Among the public lands administered by the Folsom Field Office, some areas deserve special management attention and commitment. These "special areas" are of high public interest and contain outstanding natural features or values. The objective is to conserve these features or values while allowing for public use.

The "Special Areas" managed by the Folsom Field Office are listed below. These areas consist of lands designated as an Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC).

An ACEC is a special designation created by Congress in the 1976 Federal Land Policy and Management Act. The Folsom Field Office manages five ACEC's that provide protection for ecosystems based on unusual soils and geology and often supporting an assemblage of rare plants or animals.
