Overview

Transparent and effective local governance will be essential to the sustainability of Iraq's newly elected government under a federal constitution:

  • What must be done by Iraqi and international actors to ensure efficient administration of Iraq's government on the local, municipal, and provincial level?
  • How will the U.S. Government's Provincial Reconstruction Teams work to strengthen capacity of local governance institutions and officials as well as the legitimacy of the central government?
  • Through what mechanisms can Iraqi civil society ensure the accountability of the new government on the local level?
  • Presentations will be followed by questions from the floor.
