Journal of American Indian Education, 35, 1; October 1995

Summary: The Office of Indian Education Programs, Bureau of Indian Affairs sponsors a program to improve the education of American Indian and Alaska Native students. In 1992, this program was called the Family and Child Education Program (FACE). FACE addresses several national goals of education, including: school readiness, high school completion, adult literacy, life long learning, and parental participation in education. The integration of Tribal languages and cultures is fundamental to the FACE program. FACE serves children (aged 0–5 years) and their parents or care givers in either home-based or center-based child care settings.
