WIC Food Package

How do I get a food added to the WIC food packages?

Any changes or additions to the WIC-eligible foods, as identified in WIC Federal Regulations 246.10 (http://www.fns.usda.gov/wic/PDFfiles/WICRegulations.pdf, require regulatory or legislative action.

A State agency may submit a plan for the substitution of food(s) acceptable for use in the Program to allow for different cultural eating patterns.  The State agency’s plan for the substitution of foods for different cultural eating patterns will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

Any proposed substitute food must be nutritionally equivalent or superior to the food it is intended to replace.

The proposed substitute must be widely available to participants in the areas where the substitute is intended to be used.

The cost of the substitute must be equivalent to or less than the cost of the food it is intended to replace.
