Violations
& Enforcement
Performing work in waters of the United
States without Corps authorization or failure to comply with the terms of a
valid permit can have serious consequences. Work can include placing fill in
wetlands or other waters of the United States and/or the placement or
construction of a structure in navigable waters.
Enforcement is an important part of the Corps regulatory
program. Corps surveillance and monitoring activities are often aided by State
and Federal agencies, groups, and individuals, who report suspected violations. The Corps can prescribe corrective action,
impose fines, and/or prescribe removal of the offending fill, work or structure.
