News ReleaseFor Release: August 14, 2008 BLM Plans Fuel Break Maintenance Work at Forty Acres, Wilkerson, and Oak CreekThe Bureau of Land Management Bishop Field Office will conduct maintenance work on fuel breaks located on BLM-managed public lands in the vicinity of Forty Acres, Wilkerson, and Oak Creek, Calif. Brush cutting, mowing, piling, and chipping work is expected to begin in late August or early September 2008, and should be completed in one to two weeks. The work will be performed by a BLM-authorized contractor. Hazardous fuels reduction projects were initially implemented in these areas in 2004 and 2005 to reduce fuels and provide better wildland fire defensible space for firefighters and the communities. Documents approving these projects stated maintenance work would be needed for the fuel breaks to retain their effectiveness.
