Wild Horses and Burros Offered for Adoption in Bakersfield

Mustangs fresh from the range will be on display May 10 in Bakersfield when the Bureau of Land Management offers wild horses and burros for adoption.

The BLM will offer 40 horses ranging in age from under 1 to about 5, along with 10 burros at an adoption at the Kern County Fairgrounds, 1142 S. P St.  The event runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The adoption event opens with an hour of silent bidding beginning at 9 a.m.  Animals not taken during bidding will be available for a $125 adoption fee. All animals must be taken from the facility by shortly after 5 p.m. on May 10. Anyone interested can preview the animals when they arrive at the fairgrounds at about 2 p.m. May 9. 

"Spring is here and the timing is right to begin training an adopted mustang or burro," said Art DiGrazia, facility manager at BLM’s Ridgecrest corrals.
