Former Bishop Field Manager Appointed as BLM Assistant Director

Mike Ferguson, Bureau of Land Management Bishop Field Office manager from 1989 to 1992, has been named BLM assistant director for business and fiscal resources.

"I am extremely proud of the work that Mike has done for the Bureau and am confident he will excel in this new position overseeing our business and fiscal resources," said BLM Director Kathleen Clarke. "His management and leadership skills have already been tested in Washington, and he also brings with him a lot of experience from the field."

Ferguson has been serving as the BLM Budget Officer in Washington, D.C., and was previously the associate state director for the BLM in Idaho.

In his capacity as assistant director, Ferguson will also serve as the BLM's chief financial officer, and will help oversee national policy development related to acquisition, property management, evaluations, budget and business practices.

In his 31 years as a career government employee, Ferguson has served in a variety of roles and locations within the BLM. Prior to his arrival in Washington, D.C., in 2004, Ferguson was the associate state director for the BLM in Idaho. A native Californian from the San Francisco Bay Area and 1973 Humboldt State University graduate, he has worked in state and field offices in his home state as well as in Arizona and Oregon holding a number of wildlife biologist and line management positions.
