BLM to Hold Plan Comment Meetings in Redding, Intermountain Region

The Bureau of Land Management will hold public meetings in Redding and the Intermountain Region of northeast California to provide information and receive comments on three draft resource management plans.

The plans contain a range of alternatives for management of nearly three million acres of public lands overseen by the agency's offices in Alturas, Cedarville and Susanville. Each draft plan contains an environmental impact statement (EIS) describing the environmental affects of each planning alternative.
Meetings will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. as follows:

  • Fall River Mills: Tuesday, June 13, Lassen National Forest Hat Creek Ranger District Office, 43225 Highway 299 East.

  • Redding: Wednesday, June 14, BLM Redding Field Office, 355 Hemsted Dr.

  • Dorris: Thursday, June 15, Dorris City Hall, 301 South Main St.

The BLM will accept comments until July 27, 2006. Comments must be in writing and mailed to: Bureau of Land Management, 2950 Riverside Dr., Susanville, CA 96130, attention: Resource Management Plans. Comments may be submitted via email to: necarmp@ca.blm.gov.

Copies of the plans have been mailed to requesters. The plans can be reviewed online at www.blm.gov/ca/pa/planning/landuseplanning.html. Printed or compact disc copies are available by contacting the BLM Alturas Field Office, (530) 233-4666; the Eagle Lake Field Office in Susanville, (530) 257-0456; or the Surprise Field Office in Cedarville, (530) 279-6101.

BLM Planning Team Leader Sue Noggles said all comments received will be considered in development of proposed final plans and final EIS documents to be released next year.

The new plans will replace several older plans and will contain broad guidance for public land management over the next 20 years. The plans address issues including vegetation management, livestock grazing, wild horse and burro management, energy and minerals development, fire management, water quality, scenic values and others.

For more information on the planning process or the upcoming meetings, contact BLM Public Affairs Officer Jeff Fontana at (530) 252-5332.
