The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) are composed of European member bodies whose countries cooperate within the European Economic Community and the European Free Trade Association. Their primary purpose is to develop standards needed to harmonize European interests and prevent technical barriers. Both CEN and CENELEC are committed to adopting standards developed by ISO and IEC whenever possible.
CEN and CENELEC provide draft standards for review and comment by interested parties and U.S. interests are encouraged to comment on them. Information on current draft CEN and CENELEC standards in Standards Action, a publication of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
