Expanding Youth Horizons Resource Notebook (PDF)
By Najwa Abdul-Tawwab, Jordan Meranus
2003

Summary: This resource notebook presents key concepts from the Boston Public Schools and State Learning Standards in literacy, mathematics, and science. After-school, hands-on activities linked to these concepts are included. To best support children’s academic growth, it is important that all adults who interact with children be familiar with the academic standards that have been set by both the State and Boston Public Schools. School teachers have the primary responsibility for helping children succeed academically. After-school time offers an opportunity to focus on creative learning activities that can help children build skills in an environment that supports overall healthy social development. Books that provide students with an opportunity to read a variety of literature from different cultures and time periods are listed for Kindergarten through Grade 8.
