House Government Reform Subcommittee on Human Rights and Wellness Holds Hearing on Contamination of Polio Vaccine with SV40

On November 13, 2003, the House Government Reform Subcommittee on Human Rights and Wellness (Representative Dan Burton [R-IN], Chairman) held a second hearing on contamination of polio vaccine with SV40. Dr. Robert Hoover, Director, Epidemiology and Biostatistics Program, Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics, NCI, testified on the Institute’s research on the possible link between Simian Virus 40 (SV40) and human cancers. Dr. Hoover was accompanied by Dr. May Wong, Program Director, DNA Virus Studies, Division of Cancer Biology, NCI, to answer any questions specific to virology. Dr. William Egan, Acting Director, Office of Vaccines Research and Review, Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, FDA, also testified.
