Lieutenant Colonel Mark D. Jernigan
Deputy District Commander
Lieutenant Colonel Mark D. Jernigan was assigned as deputy commander of the New Orleans District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers June 13, 2008.
Lieutenant Colonel Jernigan was previously deputy commander of the Albuquerque District from July 2005 to June 2008. During his tour with the Albuquerque District,
Lieutenant Colonel Jernigan served in Task Force Hope during Hurricane Rita/Katrina response and recovery and for six months as the Area Engineer at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom.
Lieutenant Colonel Jernigan was commissioned as an engineer officer in December 1991, and his previous assignments include: Platoon Leader, Battalion Adjutant, and Company Executive Officer in the 91st Engineer Battalion at Fort Hood, Texas; Battalion Civil Engineer in the 46th Engineer Battalion at Fort Polk, La.; Commander of B Company, 46th Engineer Battalion at Fort Rucker, Ala.; Deputy Commander for a Joint Service Detachment based in Guam; and Instructor at the United States Army Engineer School at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Prior to his tour in Albuquerque,
Lieutenant Colonel Jernigan attended the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.
Lieutenant Colonel Jernigan was a distinguished military graduate from the Mississippi State University ROTC program, earning a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering in 1991. In 1996, he earned a master’s degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Missouri at Rolla.
His military education includes graduation from the Engineer Officer Basic and Advanced courses, Combined Arms Staff Service School, and the Army Command and General Staff College. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Missouri.
His military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
