Infrastructure Assurance

Argonne’s infrastructure assurance research is focused on assuring the security and reliability of critical U.S. infrastructures and key resources that are threatened with disruption as a result of natural events, accidents, or deliberate acts such as terrorist attacks. The impacts of such disruptions—including impacts to human health and safety, the economy, and national security—must be understood for effective risk management. The infrastructure assurance work uses physical and cyber security analysis databases and tools, modeling and simulation technologies, and expertise to support the entire preparedness spectrum: to prevent, protect, respond to, and recover from all hazards, including conventional, chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear terrorism.

Focus Areas

  • Energy Infrastructure Analysis
  • Interdependencies
  • Geographic Information Systems
  • Risk Analysis and Assessment
  • Modeling and Simulation to Detect Weapons of Mass Destruction
