2006 Youth Hunters with Guides
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Clinton Lake hosts an annual special archery hunt and youth turkey hunt in Bloomington Park.
The Clinton Lake Archery Hunt runs through the month of November and the weeks of December following the rifle season. The hunting boundary, which also includes Rockhaven Park, comprises of eleven designated units accommodating 22 hunters. Participants enjoy hunting in areas that are normally off-limits to hunters, while the Corps of Engineers appreciate the safe and ethical removal of a large population of park deer.
In the spring, the Clinton Lake Youth Turkey Hunt offers an excellent opportunity for youth hunters (10-16 years of age.) Each hunter must have a guide/mentor that acts as a caller and teacher. Nine designated units accommodate the nine youth hunters. Five turkeys were harvested last year. This hunt is accompanied by a tasty breakfast and lunch, and lessons on turkey hunting from the National Wild Turkey Federation.
Interested applicants may contact the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Visitor Center at Clinton Lake by telephone at 785-843-7665 or e-mail at clinton@usace.army.mil. Applications and Rules for the hunts are posted on this website two months before the hunt.
