E-mail Questions on the Privacy Rule

If you have a question on the privacy rule, you may submit an e-mail by clicking on the mailbox below. Individual responses will not be provided. We will address concerns of general interest as Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) or other guidance on our web site.

This is not the place to file a complaint regarding a privacy violation. By law, health care providers who engage in certain electronic transactions (including doctors and hospitals), health plans, and health care clearinghouses, have until April 2003, to comply with the Privacy Rule (small health plans have until April 2004 to comply). Therefore, the Office for Civil Rights can only accept complaints regarding possible violations occurring after April 2003.
