Press Release: .Com Domain Registry Agreement: NTIA approved today a new .com domain name registry agreement between the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and VeriSign Inc.  The new agreement allows VeriSign to operate the .com domain through 2012.

National Space Policy Supports NTIA's Rulemaking on Federal Earth Stations: Acting Asst. Sec. John Kneuer sent a letter today to Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Martin notifying him that the President's U.S. National Space Policy supports the objective of NTIA's petition for a rulemaking to obtain allocation status for federal earth stations using non-federal satellites.

Federal Register: Digital Converter Box Coupon Public Meetings: NTIA announced that it will be holding individual meetings with interested parties on November 14-15, 2006 in connection with its digital-to-analog converter box coupon program described in the July 25, 2006 Request for Comment and Notice of Proposed Rules to Implement and Administer a Coupon Program for Digital-to-Analog Converter Boxes (NPRM).  All interested parties invited to schedule an individual meeting.

Market Research for Implementation of Digital to Analog Converter Box Coupon Program: On July 31, 2006, NTIA published a Request for Information (RFI) to conduct market research for implementation of the Congressionally mandated Digital to Analog Converter Box Coupon Program. NTIA is seeking capability information from organizations with the experience, qualifications, solution approaches, and best practices necessary to implement and administer the Coupon Program. This RFI is for information and planning purposes only and does not constitute a Request for Proposal. On August 11, 2006, at 10 A.M., NTIA will hold an Industry Day at the NOAA Auditorium, 1305 East West Highway, Silver Spring, MD, to give interested organizations an opportunity to receive an overview briefing on the Coupon Program and to ask questions about the project. Responses to the RFI should be received by September 15, 2006, and any questions should be e-mailed to Catherine.Holland@noaa.gov in the Commerce Department's NOAA Procurement Office.

NTIA Releases Ultrawideband Report, Part 3: The report Interference Potential of Ultrawideband Signals, Part 3: Measurements of Ultrawideband Interference to C-Band Satellite Digital Television Receivers provides results from tests that measured digital television (DTV) susceptibility to ultrawideband (UWB) interference. Technical and Economic Assessment of Internet Protocol, Version 6 (IPv6): The U. S. Department of Commerce has released the final report on the technical and economic issues related to IPv6 adoption in the United States, including the appropriate role of government, international interoperability, security in transition, and costs and benefits of IPv6 deployment. The report was developed by the IPv6 Task Force, led by NTIA and the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

Deputy Secretary of Commerce to Address Spectrum Management Workshop: Deputy Secretary of Commerce David A. Sampson will deliver opening remarks and kick off a two-day policy reform workshop on the use of economic or other incentives in order to increase the efficiency of spectrum use. The workshop will address incentives that apply both to federal government as well as non-government spectrum users. Session topics will include spectrum valuation, rights and secondary markets, sharing and fees.
