Florida is currently participating in two Learning Communities: Infant/Toddler Specialist Networks and Quality Rating Systems & Infant/Toddler Child Care.

Florida's Child Care and Development Fund Quality Infant/Toddler Earmark:


FY 2006 : The Federal CCDF Quality Infant and Toddler Earmark for is $5,627,128.

The funds are used in the following ways to enhance the Florida infant and toddler child care system (additional funds may be used to support these activities):

In Florida, The Agency for Workforce Innovation (AWI) Office of Early Learning provides support for quality and availability enhancement through the Quality Initiative and partnerships with other state agencies and organizations.

Local early learning coalitions (quasi-governmental, community organizations) are responsible for implementation of quality earmark activities. Planned activities vary by coalition, but include the following:

  • Birth to Three Learning and Developmental Standards (early learning guidelines), including training and technical assistance related to the guidelines. A specialized training initiative, Learning in Everyday Moments, that integrates the early learning guidelines into everyday routines is also available.
  • Teenage Parent Programs.
  • Gold Seal Quality Care Program, which provides a higher rate (not to exceed 20% above the reimbursement rate established by the local early learning coalition) for programs or providers who are accredited by one of the Gold Seal Program's approved accrediting agencies.
  • Continued support of activities implemented by local early learning coalitions (a.k.a., local school readiness coalitions) as described below for FY 2004.

 

FY 2004: The Federal CCDF Quality Infant and Toddler Earmark was $5,556,852.

The funds were used in the following ways to enhance the Florida infant and toddler child care system (additional funds may have been used to support these activities):

In Florida , local school readiness coalitions (quasi-governmental community organizations) are responsible for implementation of these activities. Planned activities vary by coalition, but include the following:

  • Screening and assessment for infants and toddlers.
  • Infant/Toddler Specialists to provide training and technical assistance.
  • Conferences targeting infant and toddler caregivers.
  • Parent Tool Box series.
  • Efforts to increase the supply of infant toddler care in targeted zip codes.
  • Collaboration with literacy programs such as Born to Read, Heads Up! Reading (also offered in Spanish to family child care providers), and Circle Literacy programs to promote literacy activities with infants and toddlers.
  • Brain development training and resources.
  • Technical assistance and mini -grants to support ITERS assessments and quality improvements.
