Summary of the District of Columbia's Work as Part of the Initiative (2003-2004):
The District of Columbia completed a comprehensive plan to secure support for a campaign to develop 1,000 new infant & toddler child care slots.

District of Columbia's Child Care and Development Fund Quality Infant/Toddler Earmark:

FY 2006: The Federal CCDF Quality Infant and Toddler Earmark is $151,710.

The funds are used in the following ways to enhance the District of Columbia infant and toddler child care system (additional funds may be used to support these activities):

  • Infant and toddler supply expansion (i.e. to increase slots).
  • Infant and Toddler Initiative, which will address professional development, capacity building and expansion, and program assessment and research.

FY 2004: The Federal CCDF Quality Infant and Toddler Earmark was $167,530.

The funds were used in the following ways to enhance the District of Columbia infant and toddler child care system (additional funds may have been used to support these activities):

  • Infant and toddler supply expansion (i.e. to increase slots).
  • To support the Early Childhood Leadership Institute at the University of the District of Columbia , which provides infant and toddler training.
  • Quality Care for Children Initiative, which provides consultation and technical assistance to child care providers using the ITERS.
  • Creation of Infant Toddler Demonstration Sites at two high schools.
