December 4, 2008 - U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Mike Leavitt and his counterpart from the People's Republic of China, the Honorable Chen Zhu, M.D., after they renewed for another five years the Protocol on U.S.-China Cooperation in the Science and Technology of Medicine and Public Health, the framework document that governs work on health between the two nations. The ceremony took place on the sidelines of the fifth session under the United States-China Strategic Economic Dialogue, in Beijing, capital of the People's Republic of China.

Troy, Ph.D., Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), cuts the ribbon to open the European office of the HHS Food and Drug Administration (FDA), at the U.S. Mission to the European Union (EU), in Brussels, Belgium. To the left of the Deputy Secretary is RADM Linda Tollefson, who will head up the HHS/FDA European team; to the right of the Deputy Secretary is the Honorable Kristen Silverberg, U.S. Ambassador to the EU.
